Set Backs they will come.
When you meander on your path to physical perfection, you will encounter a set back or two along the road. You should not be deterred by these little bumps. They may knock you out from you goals for a day or two, maybe a week or two. Keep on plugging along. To finish this program it is sometimes two steps forward and one step back. But always it is moving forward. Learning some vital information. Why did you have the set back? Information yes! Use this information to your advantage so you won’t have this set back again. This doesn’t mean there won’t be other bumps. But at least you can avoid whatever stopped you this time.
5 millimeters. Doesn’t sound very big. 5 millimeters is about 1/5 of an inch. Just a shade under ¼ of an inch. But when that “small” size is the measurement of a kidney stone, trying to inch it’s way through your kidneys and bladder and urethra. Well it feels like it’s about 12 inches in diameter. Now that is a set back. Which is what hit me as I started my “get fit” 365.
At 2:30am on Day 4 of my program this little nice stone, that is not round and smooth hit my left kidney. Well let me tell you…the pain. The PAIN. It is pretty painful. Actually some people says it is as bad a child birth. I don’t know as I have never giving birth, being a male. But I wouldn’t wish a stone on my worst enemy.
So passing the stone, which is what they do when it is less than 7mm was not much fun. I spent 20 hours taking lots of pain pills, and they worked…a little. And by 11:30pm that nice fine day I was pain free and mostly stone free. Now besides doing all the exercise and golf skill changes, I have to change or at least be more mindful on my diet. We will get more in depth on all of these in the coming blogs.
